Average Teacher Salaries

at Arizona Legacy Traditional Schools

Every teacher at an Arizona Legacy Traditional School is receiving a 10% salary increase for 2018-19.

Understanding the Dynamics of Calculating Average Teacher Salaries

When a school district calculates its average teacher salary, it is important to remember that changes from year-to-year in the level of teacher experience and education affect the average. As an example, a teacher with 10 years of experience and a master’s degree may leave the school and be replaced the following year with a teacher who has four years of experience and a bachelor’s degree. This would be a substantial differential that would lower the school’s average teacher salary. Therefore, when teacher salaries are looked at in aggregate and compared from year-to-year, the increase in average teacher salaries will differ from the 10 percent increase given to each individual teacher because of these expected variations.

As of July 2018, across the Legacy Traditional Schools network, the average teacher salary* had increased by 27% from 2016-17 ($40,446) to 2018-19 ($51,305).

Average Teacher Salary (A.R.S. §15-189.05), as added by Laws 2018, Ch. 285, §3

Comments on Average Salary Calculation

In June 2018, Legacy’s board approved a 10% base salary increase for returning teachers and a 10% increase to the base salary for new Legacy teachers. Accordingly, all Legacy teachers will receive a 10% increase for 2018-19. The average percentage increase differs from 10% due to changes in teaching staff, resulting in varying salary levels based on an individual’s years of experience and degrees.
